 | August 18th, 2010 - Maputo congestion surcharge
Notice is hereby given that effective immediately, 18th August 2010 (bill of lading date), MACS will implement a congestion surcharge of USD 200 per TEU and Euro 15 per freight ton on all Southbound import cargo into Maputo, Mocambique. The congestion surcharge is subject to close monitoring of the ports performance and will be reduced or withdrawn when a significant reduction in waiting times has been achieved.
A separate announcement regarding export cargo will follow shortly.
We regret this development but the waiting time of our vessels in Maputo of 3-5 days leave us with no other choice.

After previous announcements on the purchase of the additional vessel for their MACS African Coastal Service (ACS), the MACS management team are pleased to announce that on Friday 5 March 2010, the Black Rhino was successfully transferred to MACS ownership, and has now commenced loading in Durban for East Africa.
The Black Rhino is a modern feeder type vessel with good lifting capacity, carrying bulk, breakbulk and containers, and will fill the rotation between Durban, Maputo, Beira, Quelimane, Nacala and Pemba, including offering Cabotage cargoes between Mozambiquean ports.
Together with the White Rhino, which covers the larger ports, including as far North as Mombasa, these vessels will connect with MACS and GAL vessels to offer services to and from NWC and the US Gulf.
We welcome our the Black Rhino as our new addition.
We thank you for your support thus far and look forward to your continued good support on this trade. |

Reference is made to our notice on this subject sent out on January 11th. In the meantime we had various meetings with Namport and other service providers and, although delays are still being experienced, it was possible to achieve a substantial improvement of our ships turnaround time in Walvis Bay. We therefore decided to suspend the implementation of a congestion surcharge until October 1st, 2010 subject to a further review to be held in August. we would like to take this opportunity to thank all parties for their support sofar and hope that the review in August will prove that no congestion surcharge is required. |
